We could maybe improve this by giving a specific shortcut on your keyboard to press. The sword, and your armor can be upgraded. You do this by again, pressing a button. You get money from fighting, and use that to buy the upgrades. You could improve this by adding new things you could upgrade, like health, or mana regen. You level up by getting experience from killing enemies. When you level up, you gain a new ability. Be that healing, a new attack move, etc. One way you could improve this would be to let the player choose an upgrade path, or an ability they wanted from a pool of 3 options.

There were 5 backdrops in the game. Menu, Lobby, Battle, Victory, and PermaDeath. The purpose of the Menu is to house all of the different upgrades and stats. The Lobby is the settings, the beginning of the game, etc, Battle is of course, battle, and Victory is when you win the game.
