The benefits of studying abroad are endless. Often, people think of studying abroad as something that is just for college students. Some teens have the opportunity to study abroad, but there are not as many programs for young people in public schools to study abroad as there should be.
Younger kids who are trying to learn another language will improve their skills so much by actually spending time in a place where people speak the language the kids are studying. The younger someone is, the easier it is to learn another language, and in this global world, being able to speak more than one language is a valuable skill. Think of how much students who are studying French would get out of going to Paris. Students could live with a Parisian family, attend a French school, and eat French food. They could live French culture instead of just reading about it in a book.
Some people may be quick to bring up the topic of money—wouldn't it cost a lot to send a child to study abroad? Not necessarily. There are exchange programs and scholarships available to pay for young adults to have this kind of experience.
Parents who don't want their children gone for an entire school year can relax. Half-year and summer programs are also available. Many schools even offer one- or two-week opportunities, though parents will usually have to pay for those trips out of pocket.
Students who attend immersion schools—schools that teach classes only in the secondary language—can take the final step in becoming fluent when they study abroad. For students who have not had the immersion school experience, study abroad can be a good substitute. Of course, if going abroad is simply not an option for a child, parents should at least have him or her attend an immersion school or take intensive language courses. Parents should not throw away the idea of study abroad for their child until they have looked into all of the options—they might be surprised with what they find.

Unlike regular frying pans, cast iron skillets do not come with a non-stick surface. Cast iron skillets require building an oily, seasoned base. The best way to do this is to use the pan for what it was made for—cooking!
There are two ways to develop a glossy patina; a glazed or polished finish. One, after cooking with oil and spices, simply wipe the pan down, leaving some of the oil and spices on the surface. This will build up a glaze of oil and seasoning on the bottom of the pan.
A second, faster way is to simply bake the oil on. To do this, preheat an oven to 375 degrees. Coat the pan with oil and place it upside down into the preheated oven. Make sure to place aluminum foil at the bottom of the oven to catch the drips from the pan. After about 15 minutes take the pan out and leave it to cool. After its cooled, there should be a glossy, oily surface left over the top of the iron.
