Read the excerpt from Act I, scene ii of Romeo and Juliet. Servant: God gi’ good den. I pray, sir, can you read? 55 Romeo: Ay, mine own fortune in my misery. Servant: Perhaps you have learn’d it without book: but, I pray, can you read any thing you see? Romeo: Ay, if I know the letters and the language. Servant: Ye say honestly; rest you merry! [Offering to go.] Romeo: Stay, fellow; I can read. What causes the servant to ask for Romeo’s help? The servant needs directions. The servant cannot see. The servant needs to pray. The servant cannot read.

Answers

Answer:

The servant cannot read.

Explanation:

William Shakespeare's "Romeo and Ju liet" revolves around the tragic love story of two "star-crossed" lovers stuck in a secret that eventually led to their deaths. The play delves into the theme of romantic love that is violent, overpowering everything including one's loyalty and emotions.

In the given dialogue between the servant from the Capulets and Romeo, we can know that the servant is looking for someone to read the list of names he was given for the party at his master's house. His assertion that he needs someone who can read, and continuously asking Romeo "can you read? [. . .] can you read anything you see?" clearly suggests that he cannot read what he holds in his hand.

Thus, the correct answer is the fourth option.

what was the strange thing about the narrator in I never forget a face?

Answers

Answer:

It is the summarry here

Explanation:

The “I” in the story is a businessman with a weird ability of remembering faces but not the names of people. Once he saw a face, he never forgets them. This strange capability both helped him and got him into trouble. One day, he was late from work and was traveling back home in a train later than usual. It was then he saw a man get in from London. One look at him and the author knew that the man was from Bardfield like him although he didn’t know where he had seen his face there.

The train was quite crowded and the author smiled at the gentleman who returned it to him. However, their carriage soon became empty leaving only the two of them behind. The author tried to make conversation with him in many ways including about a business deal that he had made that morning. However, the man talked very little and soon the author gave up on him. Once, when he looked up at the man from his newspaper, the author found the man asleep.

When they reached their station, the author woke up his co-passenger and they walked outside the station. As it was dark and rainy, the author offered to drop the man home in his car if it was on the route that he took. The man thanked him and they resumed their journey together with the man remaining silent.

Half way through when they were at a deserted spot, the man said that he would get down there. The author thought that he was crazy but slowed down anyway. Suddenly, he felt a sharp blow on his head and he fell unconscious. He vaguely remembered being pulled out of his car. When the author regained consciousness, he had a bad headache and he found himself robbed of his car, wallet, umbrella and watch. Slowly, he made his way by foot to Bardfield and to the police station there.

When he reached the police station, the author remembered who the person was. There was a lookout notice posted on the wall that the author had seen daily for a week. The man was John and he was accused of robbery with violence and murder attempts. Once again, remembering just the face and not the name had landed the author in trouble.

The Lincoln-Douglas Debates:

6. Vocabulary: Analyze Word Choices

Analyzethe quotes from the Lincoln-Douglas

debates. Choose one phrase that would

have been especially appealing to voters at

the time and explain why.

Answers

Answer:

Many of the debates between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas revolved around the subject of slavery.

Abraham Lincoln was very diplomatic about the subject regardless of his personal beliefs.

For instance, he was quoted to severally taken a stand against anything that would result in a fracas between the free and slave states.

In taking this stand, he was saying America should be viewed as free land for all. What he didn't say by that statement is that slaves should be emancipated.

This position was acceptable to the feudal lords whose wealth rested on the shoulders of slaves and to the slaves, it was a welcome development if there was going to be a president that was at least concerned that they should have the freedom to exist and be treated as humans.

Corroborating the above position, Lincoln was also of the mindset that slaves were humans and that according to the position of the declaration of independence were entitled to the fundamental right to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness".

In taking the above position, Lincoln also was not campaigning for slaves to be offered citizenship but that they should be treated as free. Again this position was appealing to the White Supremacists and the blacks. It was middle-ground enough at that time.

In this unit, you have looked at different types of characters in fiction and in drama. Characters are essential to a story because they help move the story forward. Some characters undergo significant changes over the course of the story. Often, the reader may find that a character is easy to relate to. Or the reader may find that a character has qualities that he or she wishes to have.

Choose a character that you enjoyed reading about from a story or a drama. Which character did you choose? Why do you like this character? Can you relate to the character? Explain why. Are there any qualities of the character that you wish you had? If so, explain why you would like to have those qualities. What did you learn from the character? (katniss everdeen)

Answers

Answer:

I chose Katie's Everdeen. I like this character because she is fearless in the face of danger. I can relate to this character from when I was younger and got stuck at the top of the ferris wheel and had to climb down. I did it with no problem when I focused on my goal and not the dangers of my situation. I wish I could be as smart as she was during her situation. She did it without having to think about her options for a long time. I also wish I had her bravery. It is a death threatening situation and she didn't let that get to her in the end. I learned that if you keep your head up and focus on the positive things and complete small goals at a time, then I can achieve the "impossible".
