List four details from the text that Fitzgerald uses to establish the tense and nervous atmosphere in Nick's house as Gatsby first reunites with Daisy.

Answers

Answer 1

Answer and Explanation:

In F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby", the narrator Nick is involved in his neighbor's attempt to recreate the opportunity to love the girl of his dreams.

Gatsby lives right next door to Nick, who happens to be Daisy's cousin. Daisy is the girl Gatsby fell in love with five years earlier, but thought himself undeserving of her for being poor. In the time it took Gatsby to become wealthy, Daisy ended up marrying someone else.

Gatsby is, however, hopeful to have her back. He asks Nick to invite her to his house for tea. Daisy shows up not knowing her former lover will be there. Their reunion is, at first, extremely tense and nervous. Here are four details included in the narrative that convey those feeling:

1. Gatsby's demeanor: his hands plunged like weights in his pocket and his tragic glare;

2. The silence that follows Gatsby's entrance;

3. Gatsby and Daisy's artificiality in voice and behavior;

4.Gatsby's clumsiness when he almost knocks a clock to the ground.

I'll add the excerpt here, just as confirmation of those details:

She turned her head as there was a light, dignified knocking at the front door. I went out and opened it. Gatsby, pale  as death, with his hands plunged like weights in his coat  pockets, was standing in a puddle of water glaring tragically into my eyes.

With his hands still in his coat pockets he stalked by me  into the hall, turned sharply as if he were on a wire and disappeared into the living room. It wasn’t a bit funny. Aware  of the loud beating of my own heart I pulled the door to  against the increasing rain.

For half a minute there wasn’t a sound. Then from the  living room I heard a sort of choking murmur and part of a  laugh followed by Daisy’s voice on a clear artificial note.

‘I certainly am awfully glad to see you again.’

A pause; it endured horribly. I had nothing to do in the  hall so I went into the room.

Gatsby, his hands still in his pockets, was reclining  against the mantelpiece in a strained counterfeit of perfect  ease, even of boredom. His head leaned back so far that it  rested against the face of a defunct mantelpiece clock and  from this position his distraught eyes stared down at Daisy  who was sitting frightened but graceful on the edge of a stiff  chair.

‘We’ve met before,’ muttered Gatsby. His eyes glanced momentarily at me and his lips parted with an abortive  attempt at a laugh. Luckily the clock took this moment to  tilt dangerously at the pressure of his head, whereupon he  turned and caught it with trembling fingers and set it back  in place. Then he sat down, rigidly, his elbow on the arm of  the sofa and his chin in his hand.

Cervantes describes a dangerous battle, but by adding the cushion as a defense against Quixote’s weapon—a branch from an oak tree that he used to replace his broken sword from the windmill attack—we see the _____ nature of the entire event.

A: fantastic

B: comedic

C: serious

D: dangerous

Answers

Answer:

We see the B: comedic nature of the entire event.

Explanation:

Don Quixote is a character created by author Miguel de Cervantes. He is a lovely, chivalrous man who lives the illusion of being a knight. Don Quixote has a sense of earnest purpose, trying to improve the world without realizing his own madness. Everything is different to his eyes - windmills are giants with whom he fights, for instance. His idealistic, romanticized perspective is quite funny to watch, his battles having a comedic nature to them. His using a a branch from an oak tree as a sword, for example, is quite childish. No one can watch (or read, for that matter) a battle in which cushions and branches are used seriously. It's just like watching children playing around.

In the case of the sentence shown above, the subordinate conjunction is the word "that" which establishes a causal relationship between the first and second sentences. This word could easily be replaced by "because" and "since" and keep the same meaning.

Man vs man conflict in We beat the street. SRA

Answers

Answer:

Man vs man conflict in the story is when Rameck fought with Meatball in the school's empty hallway.

Explanation:

A man vs man conflict is a situation in any story where a character is in direct conflict with another character. These two characters will contrast each other and present opposing forces, bringing about a conflict of interest in the plot of the story.

In the book, We Beat The Street, the man vs man conflict is seen in the numerous narratives or stories of the three doctors. One such instance of this conflict is seen in the scene where Rameck and Meatball are in contrast with each other in school. This scene presents the man vs man conflict of interest, with Meatball bullying Rameck in school which led to him punching Meatball in the stomach. This fight between the two characters in the hallway of the school corridor is one such example of a conflict between two characters.

Animal Farm
Why are the animals happy in their work, despite the fact that they work like slaves?What is ironic about their reason for being happy?

Answers

Answer:

Explanation:

They think that their doing it because they choose to, instead of someone forcing them. It gives them a sense of control and freedom in a way.

Its ironic because they aren't truly choosing to do it, nor do they have the freedom or control they think they have, the pigs can enforce rules and whatnot upon them and they are completely powerless against it

Even though they were "working like slaves," the animals were nonetheless very content since they believed that all of their labour would be for their own advantage and not that of humans, who would not reap the rewards of their labour.

What is irony Animal Farm?

In Animal Farm, George Orwell uses situational irony to illustrate Lord Acton's statement that "absolute power corrupts absolutely" by portraying the pigs as corrupted leaders. When the pigs are telling the animals to work, situational irony is evident because it goes against what most readers would assume.

That year, the animals labour like slaves, but they are content because they know that humans won't benefit from their labour. Through the summer, they put in 60-hour work weeks, and in August, Napoleon says they'll start working on Sunday afternoons. Even though it's optional, animals who don't labour on Sundays will receive lower rations.

Thus, Even though they were "working like slaves," the animals were nonetheless very content.
