→When Armando saw his best friend Dylan fist pump the air and then turn to him
sheepishly, Armando knew that Dylan had made the basketball team and he had not.
Armando, though, was gracious; he said his congratulations, but then he quickly headed
to the parking lot where his dad was waiting for him. Armando preferred to share his
disappointment with his father rather than his friends even though he wasn’t sure his
father would completely understand, seeing that his father never failed to make a team
when he was in school.
Armando’s father did his best to console his son, reminding him how proud he was that
Armando had given it his best. “Armando, you’ve been practicing only since this fall, and
no one knows more than I do how far you’ve come. If you keep practicing, I’m sure
you’ll make the team next year.”
After Armando and his father returned home, Armando went to his room; he wanted
